Why become an LMT?
- Create your own work schedule Whether you’re working for a facility or for yourself, Licensed Massage Therapist’s are generally able to work a schedule that fits their lifestyle. You can also choose to work one short shift per week, as a “side job”, or as a full-time therapist. Note, most employers classify full-time as 30-32 hours a week.
- Rewarding earning potential- Currently in NJ, salary ranges between $40-$150 per hour (wage plus tip), depending on where you chose to work, modalities performed, and experience.
- Choose from a variety of facilities/industries to work in– Chiropractor or Physical Therapy office, gym, sporting team, spa, massage studio, spa retreat, or tourism industry (like a cruise ship, or hotel), or you can even be self-employed. There are also a variety of apps that allow clients to book a massage therapist. Benefits are often available to full-time staff members.
- Learn a profession that is virtually “unemployment proof” and nearly impossible to be replaced by AI. Nationally, massage therapists are in HIGH demand! This means you will have minimal difficulty in finding a job. Having the flexibility to work more or less hours when financial needs arise can be a stress reliever.
- Work in a profession that is healing and helping others, in some cases, far more than western medicine can. Massage therapy is one of the oldest forms of medicine in the world, affecting all 12 systems of the body. How does it all work?
Our 650-hour program is 8 months long, 3-nights per week- Monday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings from 6p-9:30p. You will be required to complete 100 hours of clinical massage, scheduled on 14 different Sundays (10a-6p) during your enrollment time period.
The program includes learning multiple massage modalities including:
- Swedish
- Shiatzu
- Medical massage
- Sports massage
- Deep Tissue techniques
- Reflexology
This curriculum will ensure that you start your career well rounded in both Eastern and Western modalities. The curriculum also includes academic courses- Kinesiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Business, Ethics, and Pathology. These subjects will elevate your knowledge of the body, as well the foundational information needed to take the required National/State examination(s). We have several different instructors teaching courses, exposing you to a variety of teaching styles and techniques. You should devote at least 2 hours per week for study, and homework.

- ANHSTC’s Massage Therapy program has a reputation and alumni stretching back to 1997. With almost 3 decades of experience in training the next generation of massage therapists, ANHSTC has a proven track record of success. Our student pass rate has consistently exceeded the state average for first-time MBLEx (Nation exam) attempts. Additionally, all our instructors have taken and passed examination on their first attempt. This means they have first-hand knowledge of the exam, as well as the stress and pressure affecting recent graduates. Because licensure and the exam requirements are still fairly new in NJ, many instructors were “grandfathered” in, and therefore never took the MBLEx. This means their knowledge of the test is purely based off other’s experiences and feedback, as well as the information offered by the state and national organizations administering the tests.
- To help students prepare for examination, we host a MBLEx Prep Workshop, quarterly, FREE to all academy alumni. This workshop focuses on testing tips, study tricks and mnemonic devices that can give students additional tools to pass the exam.
- Included with your enrollment, is a student membership to ABMP. Membership offers FREE student liability insurance, and access to the Exam Coach program. This program is utilized during some of our courses, and is a great study support tool, while preparing for the MBLEx.
- We keep class sizes small with a maximum of 15 students in the Massage Therapy Program. This allows our instructors to spend lots of 1 on 1 time with each student. Small class size gives you the comfort to ask questions and learn in a safe and nonjudgmental environment.
FAQ
Program tuition is $7,000. The only other cost is our textbook, which students are responsible for purchasing. The book’s cost can range from $80-$150. A deposit of $950 is due at enrollment.
Yes. ANHSTC offers interest-free 7 month financing.
We have partnered with area businesses willing to sponsor students and help pay for their education. These businesses offer tuition assistance between $2,000- $7,000, in exchange for an employment commitment after you receive your license. Please ask our admission department for a current list of offers.
The State of NJ offers financial aid for career training through their OneStop Program. Please visit the NJTOPPS website, or ask admissions for more information.
Approximately every 3-8 weeks, a new course begins. We have a “rolling enrollment” structure, which means that each time a new course begins, new students are able to join. Please reference our calendar for the next start date.
This depends on your choice of facilities, modalities you perform, and add-ons that you become certified in. Generally speaking, in NJ, LMT’s make approx. $20-$30 per hour plus tips. This will put your hourly earns to around $40-$50 per hour. If you work for yourself, the going hourly rate for massage is $80-$150 per hour. How much you make is really up to you.
The state of NJ requires:
a. 600 hours of massage school, including 100 hours must be clinical hours
b. CPR, AED, and First Aid certification
c. Successful completion of either the MBLEX, or NCBTMC national exam
d. Background check & fingerprinting

Yes. The state of NJ requires that you have proof of high school/GED, or higher education. Along with the application, you must submit a copy of your transcript or diploma.
The Academy is a NJ State Approved Private Vocational School. Our massage school NJ
programs are approved by the New Jersey Department of Education. Our graduates are
eligible for Licensing by New Jersey State, and the American Reflexology Certification Board.
