The Academy’s, 300-Hour, Clinical Aromatherapist® (CL. A.®), Online, Home-Study Certification Program is one of our professional training aromatherapy courses, that will teach you the theory and practical applications of aromatherapy, that can help anyone achieve physical, mental, and spiritual balance. This course can help prepare you to work in your own private practice, wellness centers, healthcare offices or spas. Your aromatherapy training is both thorough and fun to learn.
Your online aromatherapy course is taught in 10 sections and is designed to give you the professional knowledge and education needed to make proper aromatherapy evaluations and recommendations. For this online course, the student communicates with his or her teacher by e-mail. The student is sent a series of testing materials (10 sections) that are completed and returned to our Aromatherapy school for grading by our expert aromatherapy course instructors. This is information that is similar to that available for health professionals from the Aromatherapy Registration Council. The Aromatherapy Registration Council helps aromatherapists, massage therapists, and other health professionals to practice safely.
COURSE DESCRIPTIONS, TUITION, BOOKS & ENROLLMENT
Section #1: Human Anatomy & Physiology

Note: Students with health degrees in related fields like massage, nursing, medicine, etc., may be exempt from the A&P requirement.
This anatomy & physiology education deals with all 10 body systems affected by the use of essential oil. The assignments are interspersed throughout Sections 2-6, allowing the student to complete the A&P requirement incrementally. Subjects include the:
Integumentary System, Endocrine System, Nervous System, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory System, Digestive System, Immune and Lymphatic System, Reproductive System, Urinary System, and Musculoskeletal System.
Section #2: Principles of Aromatherapy
Your education here begins with the introduction to aromatherapy. It is a very thorough look at the foundations of essential oil use. Training includes:
Aromatherapy History, Essential Oils Extraction, Chemistry of Essential Oils, Oil & Botanical Families, Adulteration and Oil Purity, Case Studies, Safety, Guidelines & Cautions, Biophysical Actions of Essential Oils, Olfactory, Integumentary & Respiratory Actions, Blending Essential Oils, Essential Oils for Health and Beauty & Wellbeing.
Section #3: Healthy Nutrition & Lifestyle
We need good nutrition to feed the 10 systems of the body and to ensure that the essential oil we use have the best chance of helping us. This section teaches students the basics of a good nutrition and lifestyle program, and, provides your clients with an easy-to-understand, do-it-yourself, "Wellness Charts Booklet" that can help anyone live a more healthful life. Your booklet includes:

Section #4: Medical Aromatherapy
An in-depth look at the science behind aromatherapy. phytochemical constituents of oils, their healing properties, and medical uses for common health conditions are explored, including:
Antiseptic Actions, Antivirals, and Antibacterials, Anti-Inflammatories, Auto-Immune Issues, Women’s Health Issues, Nervous System Health, Respiratory System Health, Digestive System Health, Urinary System Health, Chemotypes, Essential Oil Analysis Methods, Toxicity & Safety, Phytochemistry of Individual Oils and Medicinal Application of Essential Oils.
Section #5: Essential Oil Formulations

This training gives the student an encyclopedic knowledge of over 600 essential oil formulations for almost every use imaginable, using things like vegetable oils, carrier oils, and clary sage to ylang-ylang and Lavandula angustifolia. A great reference text and a fun, easy way to learn the practical applications of essential oils. This part of the aromatherapy program gives you the knowledge and foundation to create essential oil profiles for almost anything. Below, are just a few examples included in your education course:
Female Conditions, the Endocrine System, the Digestive System, the Urinary System, the Peripheral Nervous System, Immune System, the Reproductive System, Male Conditions, Babies & Children, Injuries, Stress, Fatigue, Insomnia, Skin, Hair & Nails, Perfumes & Fragrances, Cooking with Essential Oils, Gardening, and Pests, and Animal Care.
Section #6: Aromatherapy for Beauty, Hair & Skin Care
Natural cosmetic care is one of the foundations of this course and an important part of your education and the aromatherapy industry. Topics include:
Purchasing Ready-Made Natural Cosmetics, Making Your Own Natural Cosmetics, Essential Oils for Specific Skin Types, Cleansing, Toning & Facials, Wrinkles & Lines Treatment, Treating Irritations and Diseases of the Skin, Skin Care Recipes and Procedures, Aromatic Bath Recipes, Massage Oil Recipes, Essential Oils for Specific Hair Types, Treating Scalp Conditions, Hair Care Recipes, Creating Individualized Natural Perfumes and Natural Perfume Formulations.
Section #7: Aromatherapy for Emotional and Mental Balance
The psychological and spiritual benefits of this education are emphasized in this section as the student gains an understanding of the effects of fragrance on mood. Discover safe and effective individual oils and blending combinations for consumers who are looking for relief for the following:
Restoring Mental & Physical Balance, Blending for Balance, Nervous Tension & Agitation, Over-Thinking & Worry, Anxiety & Apprehension, Concentration, and Memory, Anger & Frustration, Confidence & Self-Esteem, Empowerment and Indecision, Depression & Negativity, Problems Relating, Methods of Application, Yin & Yang Concepts and Aromatherapy Massage Technique.

Section #8: Client Assessment & Recommendations
Through the use of an aromatherapy client assessment questionnaire and other information supplied by your client, our course teaches students how to evaluate a client’s well-being and essential oil needs so that he or she can recommend the proper aromatherapy oil or formula to help individuals achieve their goals.
Section #9: Aromatherapy Jurisprudence & Ethics
This course discusses the things aromatherapists can and can’t do and the standards of the industry that practitioners must have an understanding of. We teach students how to practice legally and how to avoid the practice of medicine, such as you might find in institutions, hospitals, or from doctors or nurses. Consent forms are supplied to the student along with practical, real-life suggestions for the legal standards and ethical practice of aromatherapy and working with people in various settings from hospitals to spas.
Section #10: Aromatherapy Practicum

The student is required to do five aromatherapy consulting sessions with family and friends. The student will do one session at a time and submit each session individually, for evaluation. Your instructor will review each session, give you constructive feedback and help you to hone your interviewing skills. By the tenth session, most students will acquire the confidence to proficiently evaluate even the most difficult cases.
Section #10: Practice Building Strategies
Suggestions and strategies that can help you build a successful aromatherapy consultation practice you can be proud of. Strategies for students in this course include:
Legal Issues, Case Studies, Liability Insurance, Office Location, Record Keeping, Practice Management, Ethical Issues, Marketing, Networking, Referrals, Money Issues, Fee Structure, The Internet, Problem Solving and Personal Development.
Upon successful completion of the program, the student will be awarded the Academy’s 300-Hour, Clinical Aromatherapist® (CL.A.®) Diploma.
